Free Autoresponder in WordPress? Video, Please!

Our plugin offers a simple and free autoresponder for WordPress. Here’s a quick video of how it works:

I set out to write a full comparison of autoresponder plugins. I searched, I tried, and I got discouraged.

Instead, this post will cover our own solution with splashy video. No more, no less. If you have less than 2000 subscribers, it won’t cost you a dime to set up. Ready? Read More…

Mistakes We Spot in Your Newsletters

Ready to start 2013 with a few newsletter writing tips? I’ve subscribed to over 200 newsletters made with Wysija in over a year. This allows me to assess how good or bad some campaigns are. Let’s jump straight to my recommendations.

I read text, not images

It all begins with the subject. What will make me click on your email in my inbox full of unreads? Sender and subject, that’s it. Keep your subjects short, precise, relevant to your geography, event, etc. Remy of emailblog.eu has his own top 10 subjects for 2012.

Second, I see a lot of long, long emails. Gmail has even begun to chop off the bottom of emails with too much content. Inboxes are now more than ever on mobile phones. So how long is long? That depends on how often you send and what type of content or site you have.

See example of a French editor that’s beautifully to the point.

Generally, if you think your length is good, that means you can bring out the ax and scream: “Here’s Johnny!Read More…

Get Subscribers Before You Launch Your Next WordPress Site

Are you about to launch a site? This is a good time to get subscribers and create some hype.

John who codes the plugin Coming Soon Pro has just integrated Wysija.

Logged out visitors will see a “Coming Soon” page. Here’s my own test:

It costs 29 bucks for a single site. A little more for unlimited sites.

I never thought such a plugin would warrant so many features. The user interface is easy to use, so no frustrating learning curve. Job well done.

How it works with Wysija

John took the time to create a screencast. Check it out, it’s ultra straightforward.

We’re happy to see our little plugin save the day for many people. We were at pains with newsletter plugins ourselves and decided to do something about it.

Send With Mailjet, Get 6000 Free Emails and 50% Off. Booyah!

Update: we terminated our partnership with MailJet. They offer a great service and platform, but we have bounce handling issues for our Premium users (they don’t forward the bounced emails to Wysija).

20% of emails never reach their destination according to the experts at Return Path. Most are blocked even before reaching the spam filter. We call this bad deliverability.

We do get the occasional question on our support site: “Why are my emails in the spam folder?” or even worst “My newsletter never arrives!” It’s awful and annoying to be considered a spammer while your completely legit, isn’t ?

Our first and most common response is: consider sending with a professional Email Service Provider (ESP). You’ll enjoy good deliverability. They have fast servers, with a good reputation and they are fairly cheap. Read More…

Stats in Your Newsletter Plugin. What’s a Good Open Rate?

Tracking the success of your newsletters in WordPress is fun. When you compare your different newsletters you get an idea of how successful your efforts are in reaching your audience.

Statistics are even more compelling with newsletters because they tell you the story of what your die hard fans want. A Facebook page hardly gets more engagement. At least, based on my own experience of visits with sorted by number of page views.

Statistics in Wysija

Example of stats in Wysija. No unsubscribe or bounce. Yay!

What is a good open rate? How about clicks, bounces and unsubscribes? We asked 2 companies we’re affiliated with, Elastic Email and SendGrid, to answer these questions. They deliver millions of emails every day. No wonder they have similar answers. Read More…

Insert a Video Player in Your Newsletter Template

Video’s can’t be embedded in emails. This is completely out of our plugin’s control. Email clients are just old school and don’t support it. If the WordPress community built an email client, no doubt we wouldn’t have this issue.

Wouldn’t it be cool if your subscribers could play some crazy video of a talking dog directly in their newsletters?

The best way to tease your subscribers is to insert an image that resembles a player and link to the video in question, like this:

Youtube Player

Since most of you will be looking for such a player, we created a color and black version for:

  • YouTube
  • vimeo
  • Blip
  • Dailymotion
Download all video players images (.zip, 375kb), including the Photoshop file. They will fit perfectly in your Wysija design.

Send 5000 Emails for Free With Elastic Email

Tired of slow sending? Subscribers reporting that your legitimate emails are in their spam box? Turn the table around. It’s cheap and it’s worth it. We’ve partnered with Elastic Email to give you a trial run of 5000 emails.

Let’s get a few things straight first. Yes, this is an affiliation. We get a cut. But this is also a recommendation you need to take seriously, whether you take or not Elastic Email or SendGrid (free month with them).

One of the main arguments of using MailChimp, Aweber, etc. instead of a plugin like Wysija is that these quality web services ensure high deliverability.

What does that mean? Read More…
