The First 5 Minutes of a New User (Video)

Ever wondered what someone thinks of your plugin the first time they try it? The four of us at Wysija sure do.

Our users give us positive feedback on how “easy it is“. The adoption rate of our plugin tells a similar tale.

Over half of Wysija’s 175 000 downloads use the latest versions. This is the story told in this piechart on our page on the WordPress plugins’ repository:

But what about the unhappy people who dropped Wysija after 5 minutes? Read More…

How Many Emails a Month Do You Send?

We have no idea how many emails a month people send with Wysija. Nul. Zero. Zip.

We’ve seen everything from over 1 million to 50.

So we fired up good old Google Docs, or Drive, to pull some data. This is totally anonymous. There’s no sign up page or fancy opt-in.

Spread the Word. Follow Us. You’re Fantastic.

We’re happy to see our little plugin save the day for many people. We were at pains with newsletter plugins ourselves and decided to do something about it.

Wysija was thus born, made to be simple and fun: What You Send Is Just Awesome!

We’re still spreading our wings. Word of mouth is the best way for Wysija to get known. It’s easy peasy for you to do that, thankfully.

Email Subscription for WordPress, The Wysija Way (Screenshots)

Let’s be bold and honest. Setting up a post notification solution in your WordPress site is a bit of a drag.

Below, we share the wireframes of our own upcoming post notifications. It’s due in our next release later in April. We’re quite excited because it’s fully integrated to our visual editor.

I reviewed four popular free email subscription services recently. All have their strengths, but none display exactly like you would want it. Not easily in a few clicks.

What if a plugin made post notifications fun on top of it? That’s exactly what the four Wysija boys are trying to do right now. Read More…

5 Questions for our Users

Quick update: although we posted this a while ago, we do check any new results!

We just had our weekly meeting today on Skype. We were prioritizing what should come in our next release, code name “Rooster“.

I’ll spill the beans: post notifications (like Feedburner email alerts) & auto responders (send automatically an email after an event, like a subscription).

Update: see wireframe preview of post notifications.

The four of us do wonder what lies ahead, beyond Rooster. And also what you guys thinks generally of our plugin so far.

We devised a Google Form for the occasion. It’s short and pretty straightforward. Read More…

Is This Feature in Your Newsletter Plugin!?

Our WordPress users have filed over 100 support requests since we launched in late 2011. A few questions, plenty of feature requests, some bugs and lots of love.

4000 downloads later, very few people ask how the plugin works. This sort of validates our initial design. Phew.

We went through 6 versions of wireframes, each time simplifying the logic, the buttons, the labels. This process continued while in development.

Curious? Download the wireframes of our entire plugin. 21 pages, PDF, 800kb.

The final product looks 75% like the wireframes. My partners, Ben, Jonathan and Adrien, are coders focused on usability. A rare breed. Read More…

“You’re the best Newsletter Plugin for WordPress ever”

Launching a plugin is a lot of fun, as I wrote in our official launch post. We stressed on the amount of downloads (750 so far) we’d get and the initial reaction from users. Only normal after several months of coding.  The excitement in our team of 4 has somewhat subsided a bit. It’s time to debrief on the criticism.

Our first feedback we got was rather blunt. That comment could be summed to: “Your s***t ain’t working“. The prerequisite of success is that your plugin executes flawlessly. The code and the UI. We’re still focused on wrapping up the beta. The more bugs found, the merrier. So we expected at least one of those.

We’ve received a dozen pretty encouraging comments in total. We picked 4 who agreed to share their thoughts here:

I’ve discovered your plugin only a few days ago an I’m totally addicted. I’ve installed it in my websites and in every site I manage.
Miss Marian

I’ll say it again: you’re the best Newsletter Plugin for WordPress ever :)
Giorgio

Mac

I love what you have done with this plugin. I am pleased and impressed by your quick response for support!
Cosmic Yogi (Not his real name. But you guessed that, right?)

Pretty cool, eh? With these phrases echoing in our heads, we had a Skype meeting this week to prioritize the features for the next version. It’s only going to get better, believe us. But first, we need to launch. Expect a Xmas release. Subscribe in the footer to get notified.

If you still haven’t tried us, download our Wysija Newsletter plugin on the wordpress.org repository.
