Our war on creating-newsletters-from-WordPress-is-so-damn-complicated has a new chapter in its book.
We’re rolling out a simple but efficient little weapon: the social bookmarks widget. This latest item in our arsenal will be shipped with our upcoming release. Probably next week. It’s out. Read about it all.
This new feature is inline in keeping our newsletter plugin a 100% HTML-free experience. It’s also the foundation of our gallery widget which will eventually roll out in the spring or early summer. Update: we won’t do it because multi columns is not mobile friendly!
I dropped all 45 creative commons icon sets in a single newsletter to test them. This is what an overdose of social icons in Wysija looks like:
Right, you’ll never do that. But at least you see the possibilities.
We included icons of popular social bookmark plugins, like AddThis. The others were found online and are distributed under Creative Commons.
We focused on 4 networks:
- Google+
You can tinker with it to add any bookmarks you want with a quick FTP visit to the wp-contents/uploads/wysija/bookmarks folder.
How does the widget work?
Drop the widget in your newsletter and this is popup will be presented to you. Fairly straightforward affair.

The widget itself can be resized and aligned as you please. Great for pixel perfect positioning. Just the way my partner Jonathan wanted it to be while coding it. He’s an elite digital sniper, didn’t you know?

I can’t wait! great.
Hi,
I have just installed your plugin. I am going to love it! However, whenever I go to the Social widget, I can’t see any choices to choose from. I do see where to modify the link addresses but, the green choice box is empty reguardless if I press small, medium, large. Ofcourse whenever I press done nothing happens.
Help please!
Good to see you followed up in a ticket. :-)
Hi, how you doing? You did great job but i have a problem with social icons, I dont find the way to chage 2 of 4 icons, always show the same, I dont understand. Thx for your help
Hey! Create a ticket in support.wysija.com and attach a screenshot. We’ll help you there!
Hi Kim,
Any reason other icons are not supported like YouTube, Pinterest etc?
Thanks
Yes Youtube, and any other social media site. Why is there no choice there?
You can add them manually, which we agree is a little quirky.
